The Breeders' Cup board of directors didn't take formal action during an Oct. 4 retreat but did reach consensus on extension of the organization's management agreement with the National Thoroughbred Racing Association.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - With the 22nd Breeders' Cup set for Oct. 29 in New York, the prep races with the highest quality are being run at Belmont Park. Trainers want their horses to get a race over the track, a swing variable that has bolstered the fields at Belmont while simultaneously depleting the available pool of talent elsewhere.

A field of 11 juvenile fillies with no heavy favorite should make for a competitive renewal of the Darley Alcibiades Stakes (gr. II) Friday, Keeneland opening day of the fall meeting.

More Than Pretty, from the barn of Keeneland regular Bernie Flint, will be on the lead and one of those who may prove tough to handle in the $400,000 1 1/16-mile race.

NYRA Official Warns of Possible Insolvency, Need to Sell Property

The New York Racing Association could be insolvent by the third week of November unless several plans to raise money and cut expenses occur, NYRA President Charles Hayward told a state oversight panel today.
