4---THE READY HORSE (continued) In Part 5 we discussed positive energy levels for the “ready horse”. Hand in hand with positive energy goes color. Much like humans, the color of a thoroughbred is not only a barometer of his overall health but his total readiness. Luckily for all handicappers whether on track or getting a racetrack feed at a satellite outlet or over their computers, the color of any runner can’t escape a trained eye. |

By Patrick Hagan of the DAILY SCHTW In 2002, I had a chance meeting with Joe Takach – “the guru of the paddock”. That chance meeting was the beginning of solving the last missing piece to my handicapping puzzle, namely “physicality”. |

Padding your Bankroll

By Michael Dempsey Theyareatthepost.com handicapper Michael Dempsey will attempt to pad his bankroll and yours. He will feature at least one Pick 4 play from a major track along with coverage of major stakes races, longshots, and will keep you up to date on what is happening on the circuits he covers. Don't miss Wednesday's report where Michael will keep you up to date with track bias reports for the major circuits. We are back for another week of trying to pad our bankroll. After two days of the Keeneland meeting we are again looking at stalkers and closers dominating the action. At the fall meeting, the first on polytrack, on 13 of the 16 days the synthetic surface favored outside stalkers and closers. There is rain the forecast today and it will be interesting to see if the polytrack is affected. We'll try to take down the late Pick 4 at Keeneland with a $48 ticket. |

Keeneland opens today! Keeneland is offering purses in excess of $600,000 per day during the 15 day meeting. Over $4.3 million will be up for grabs in stakes races. The highlight on Saturday is the Grade 1 $500,000 Ashland Stakes for three year old fillies. |

By Mike Benitez At some point every handicapper faces a challenge where they must take on their own thoughts and attitudes. Currently, there is a very popular DVD and book out called, The Secret. It explains about the laws of attraction and how our thoughts, whether positive or negative, attract like thoughts. The Secret was recently featured on the Oprah Winfrey show and has been selling off the shelves. |

By Brian Mulligan With many of the sophomore crop opting for other races, the Santa Anita Derby has come up a bit soft on content but that doesn’t mean there are no potential stars in the fray. Those looking to play the roulette wheel can take a shot at Black Seventeen. Impressive in his Del Mar debut, the runner needed his local race badly and has every right to improve. He will have to overcome a weak pedigree to get there. There are 3 maiden winners in the tree but they are only a combined 3 for 28 and two others in the family are a combined 0 for 34. Seventeen has potent connections in Brian Koriner but the reality is that he is playing catch up at this point in time even though he brings commanding speed. |

By John Pricci Saratoga Springs--For Arabian interests, there’s only one world and one race left to conquer. Unfortunately for them, everybody wants to win the Kentucky Derby. That’s the tough one. But the other goal, hosting the Breeders’ Cup Thoroughbred World Championships, could be easier to realize, possibly as soon as the fall of 2010. |

By Joe Takach 4---THE READY HORSE Now that we’ve looked at the negative energy postures, we’ll flip the coin to the other side and view the “ready horse”. In addition to acceptable muscling, color, tails, ears and correct walking which we’ll discuss in great detail later on, “ready horses” have high energy levels. |
