By FullCardReports.com Aqueduct Aces of the Day: In a day of doubles, jockeys Eibar Coa, Alan Garcia, and Norberto Arroyo each notched two victories while top trainer Gary Contessa saddled two winners. Arroyo swept the $54.00 mid-day double aboard DUAL JEWELS ($16.00) and GONE GOODBYE ($7.70). In Wednesday's featured NW1X optional claimer, Chuck Lopez put STAR OF TRIESTE on the front end and never looked back as that one took them gate to wire to prevail by two lengths. The even money favoite, WHO WHAT WIN, chased in second the entire trip while STAR OF TRIESTE'S stablemate, THREE IN THE BAG, was a non-threatening third. STAR OF TRIESTE traveled the mile and 70 yards in 1:41.42 and returned $7.30. The win was trainer Gary Contessa's 39th on the inner track. Troubled Trip: In Wednesday's second race, a maiden special sprint for fillies and mares, SOUTHERN SASS bobbled at the break and then was rushed up to the lead by apprentice rider Jesus Ponce. She predictably tired to third down the lane and probably was no match for the winner, SKIPPER TALE ($4.80), but we noted the troubled start and will give her a long look next out. The New York Racing Association will offer two twilight Friday racing cards during the upcoming Saratoga Meet that begins on July 25th. The dates for the two Fridays will be July 27th, the first Friday of the meeting, and August 31st, the final Friday of the meeting. Post time for the opener on those two days will be 2:45 p.m. At Aqueduct Wednesday, Count Fleet Stakes winner PINK VIPER, pointing for the $65,000 Whirlaway Stakes on February 10th, breezed five furlongs in 1:00.61, second fastest of 16 works at the distance. Thursday's top race is a $100,000 optional claimer under Nw1X conditions for three-year-olds. The race goes with a $45,000 purse at six furlongs and drew a field of seven. The Anthony Dutrow-trained SERIOUS FEVER (2/1ML) drew the rail and will be ridden by Ramon Dominguez. SERIOUS FEVER is a half-brother to $1 million earner FREEFOURINTERNET and was third in one of these last out. He broke the maiden in November two back in his second start at Delaware Park. JUST WILD (3/1ML), a full brother to Grade 1-placed WILD SNITCH, drew the outside post seven and will have the services of Chuck Lopez. In his second start, on December 30th, this Ben Perkins trainee was an impressive four-length winner at the distance and comes in here off a sharp 49 flat breeze on January 18th. Lopez was aboard for the maiden win. Kiaran McLaughlin's EASE (4/1ML) went sixth in the debut race at Aqueduct in November before shipping to Philadelphia Park and taking some time off. On December 24th, he won a maiden special at Philly going 6.5 furlongs and returns to New York for this race. EASE will start from post six with Jose Santos. The Longshot: Texas-bred STRIGHTUP TWELVE (8/1ML) is 3/2/2 from ten lifetime starts and 2/1/1 from four tries at the six-furlong distance. He's a stakes-placed runner and went second two back in a $40,000 claimer on the inner track. In his last race, he went sixth at a mile and should benefit with the cutback to his best distance. Trained by Scott Lake, STRIGHTUP TWELVE drew post four and will be piloted by Alan Garcia. JOHANNESBURGAFFAIR, TILLMAN'S LEGACY, and NO LAC O ZIP are also entered to start. Wednesday's Pick 6 paid a healthy $19,681.00. |
