By FullCardReports.com Aqueduct Ace of the Day: Top Aqueduct rider Ramon Dominguez notched two more victories Wednesday and now has 41 over the inner track. Eibar Coa, New York's leading rider in 2006 with 303 wins, has 36.
More New York Aces: Harold Lerner and Steve Sigler’s Winning Move Stable led all owners in wins during 2006 with 43 victories, while Darley Stable was first in earnings with more than $3.5 million from its 35 wins. Gary Contessa topped all trainers with 151 victories last year, the second best single-season total in New York Racing Association history. Todd Pletcher led all trainers in money won with $8.85 million. The 2006 on-track handle at the NYRA tracks increased 2.2 percent from a daily average of $1,648,840 to $1,684,699 for 2005, while all-sources handle was up 2.3 percent from a daily average of $10,107,009 to $10,337,080 for the previous year. In Wednesday's feature race, a NW2L allowance for fillies and mares that went 6-furlongs, CASSANOVA STORY, with Ramon Dominguez up, chased SINISTER DEANCE for a quarter before taking command and going on to prevail by two lengths. LITTLETOWN BRIDGE rallied for the place while WALTZ BRIGHTLY got third. In winning her second race from five starts, the Anthony Dutrow-trained CASSANOVA STORY returned $2.80 as the overwhelming favorite. She stopped the clock in 1:13.65. Troubled Trip: In Thursday's sixth race, a one-mile maiden claimer, MISS VANITY got run down in the final strides by MISS LINZER but her troubles started at the break. MISS VANITY stumbled badly when the gates opened and was then rushed up by Eddie Martin to take the lead. It looked like the stategy was going to pay off when MISS VANITY was clear by seven in mid-stretch but she tired badly in the last sixteenth and had nothing left to hold off MISS LINZER. Thursday's top race, a $75,000 optional claimer for fillies and mares at a mile and 70 yards under NW3x allowance conditions, will go off as race three because of the five-horse field. The one to beat here is Gary Contessa's DAYTIME PROMISE (7/5ML) who drew post five and will have Ramon Dominguez in the saddle. DAYTIME PROMISE is eligible for the NW2X condition but trainer Contessa sees this race as an opportunity for his filly to get a win. DAYTIME PROMISE is winless in seven starts since winning the Busanda Stakes last January but she just missed last out in a second-level allowance race at the distance. She's two for four at a mile and 70 yards and 2/2/1 from seven starts on the inner track. CANDY BOX (5/2ML) ships in from Woodbine for trainer Bruce Levine and stretches out from a good effort at 6-furlongs. This mare is 3/3/0 from ten starts and was an OK second two back with NW4X company at a mile and a sixteenth. CANDY BOX will start from post two with Mike Luzzi. New York-bred LITTLE MISS ZIP (3/1ML) also stretches out from 6-furlongs. This daughter of CITY ZIP was a winner in a NW2X sprint with open company last out and has gone well in one-turn miles in restricted company. She is trained by Steve Klesaris and will break from post four with Norberto Arroyo in the irons. GAME CARD (8/1ML), winless since taking a $45,000 claimer at Belmont in June, and LILA PAGE (5/1ML), who's last win was a NW2X one-mile race ten months ago, complete the field. We pass on selecting a longshot for this race. The thee-day Pick 6 carryover is no more. Thursday's winning tickets were worth $12,958.00 each. |
