Aqueduct Aces of the Day: Veteran jockey Eddie Martin scored a riding double at Aqueduct Thursday and now has 19 victories on the inner track. Trainer James Ryerson saddled two winners that got home with nice numbers. The Ryerson-trained RED SAIL AT SUNSET won the sixth race to pay $11.00 and MISTER ALIMONY took the nightcap at $17.80.

Alan Klanfer's FUEGO GRANDE ($9.50) won Thursday's featured allowance race when she rallied along the inside through the second turn and went off to win by almost three lengths. LADY RAJ was a head better than LITTLETOWN BRIDGE for the place. FUEGO GRANDE, with Eibar Coa up, traveled the mile and a sixteenth in 1:45.91 and is now four for nine over the Aqueduct inner track.

Troubled Trip: In Thursday's first race, a mile-and-a-sixteenth claimer, the two inside posts finished one/two with DILIGENT GAMBLER ($8.20) getting the win. LIGHTNING STRIPES, out of post five, rallied well for the show, just three lengths away from the winner, but was doomed by the four-wide trip through the second turn. We have been harping for years that a horse needs early speed to gain position or an inside post to save ground when going two-turns on the Aqueduct inner track. LIGHTNING STRIPES had neither and paid the price.

Lawrence P. Roman’s LAWRENCE THE ROMAN, a son of 2001 Horse of the Year POINT GIVEN, breezed three furlongs Thursday morning on a fast inner track in 36.95 as he prepped for his next assignment – Saturday’s $65,000 Whirlaway Stakes at a mile and a sixteenth . Undefeated in three starts for trainer Richard Dutrow , LAWRENCE THE ROMAN won the Damon Runyon Stakes against fellow New York-breds in December, covering the mile and a sixteenth in 1:44 2/5 and winning by 11 lengths. The Whirlaway will mark his first start in open company and could place this colt on the Derby trail.

Next week, Aqueduct will conduct a six-day race week with a President's Day program on Monday, February 19th. That day's feature race will be the $65,000 Fred “Cappy” Capossela for three-year-olds at six furlongs. Aqueduct will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 20th and 21st, and will re-open on Thursday, February 22nd, with a first-race post at 12:30 p.m. Eastern.

Friday's feature race is a $100,000 optional claimer for older horses at a mile and a sixteenth that drew a stakes-quality field of eight. The Dick Dutrow-trained MR. WHITESTONE (5/2ML) comes in here off two hard-fought, neck losses in November and January. The first defeat came at the hands of stablemate LIQUOR CABINET, who returned to win the Grade 3 Aqueduct Handicap by nine lengths. The second loss, January 4th, came against WILD JAM, last year’s Paumonok winner over the inner track. MR. WHITESTONE is 1/2/1 from four starts at the distance and will start from post seven with Chuck Lopez.

Trainer Gary Contessa will counter with the entry of MAYAN KING and MALIBU SUNSHINE (3/1ML) who will break from posts one and six respectively. MAYAN KING was fifth last out to LIQUOR CABINET in the Aqueduct but has won with similar at the distance. He's two for three on the inner track and will have Mike Luzzi in the saddle. MALIBU MOONSINE has been competing in minor stakes and is winless since taking a two-turn allowance at Mountaineer back in July. Alan Garcia takes the call.

Grade 1 winner EVENING ATTIRE (9/2ML) makes his first start in nearly nine months Friday. The nine-year-old gelding won the 2002 Jockey Club Gold Cup and has banked over $2.5 million in earnings. Winless in five starts last year, the old fan-favorite was given most of 2006 off and resumed training in December. EVENING ATTIRE has fired three bullet work tabs to prep for the 2007 season and has never been worse than second in three tries at the distance. EVENING ATTIRE is trained by Pat Kelly and will start from post four with Jose Espinoza in the irons.

The Longshot: Trainer Mike Gorham's TRAPPED AGAIN (12/1ML) drew the outside post eight but has the speed to go well early and secure position. This seven-year-old horse took a year off between December, 2005 and December,2006 and may outrun the odds third off the layoff. He's 2/4/3 from thirteen starts at the distance and ships in from Laurel where he was a last-out fifth in the one-mile Native Dancer Stakes. TRAPPED AGAIN will be ridden by Joe Rocco.

NEW YORK HERO, DAZZLING DR. CEVIN, and MONOPOLY PRICING complete the field.

The Pick 6 was not hit Thursday, leaving a $25,835 carryover for Friday's action.
