By FullCardReports.com Although no agreement has been reached between the New York Racing Association and the jockeys over which hospital riders should be taken to following an ontrack injury, both sides agreed that racing would resume Wednesday at Aqueduct as scheduled. Saturday's program was stopped after the fifth race and the entire nine-race card for Sunday was canceled after jockeys refused to ride following a spill in Saturday's fifth race, the second accident in three days. The riders want to be taken to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York as opposed to the closer Jamaica Hospital because they feel that they receive better care at North Shore. Jamaica is a Level 1 trauma center and just ten minutes away from Aqueduct. Jockey Ramon Dominguez, despite being out with a leg injury suffered in a spill, continues to lead all riders on the inner track with 67 wins. Eibar Coa, last year's inner-track champ has 56 and Chuck Lopez has 47. Top trainer Gary Contessa has 40 victories but it is worth noting that Anthony Dutrow is firing 30% with a record of 18 wins from 60 starts. Wednesday's top race is an optional claimer under Nw3X allowance conditions for older horses at a mile and 70 yards. ACHILLES OF TROY (7/5ML) returns from an eleven month layoff after a front leg injury that took him off the Derby trail. Prior to being vanned off in last year's Gotham Stakes, ACHILLES OF TROY racked up wins in the Count Fleet and Whirlaway Stakes. On January 25th he fired a bullet 58.4 bullet work tab going five furlongs and is the horse to beat here. ACHILLES OF TROY is trained by Alan Klanfer and will start from the rail with Eddie Martin. EXECUTIVE CHOICE (5/2ML) missed a neck in the Sir Barton Stakes at Woodbine in December before shipping to New York. On January 15th he was second as the favorite in one of these at the distance. This son of BIRDONTHEWIRE is 2/2/1 from six starts at a mile and 70 yards and should be on or near the pace. EXECUTIVE CHOICE drew post five and will be ridden by Chuck Lopez. The Longshot: Trainer Richard Violette's TAKE THE BLUFF (7/2ML) overcame a stumbling start last out to take them gate to wire in a similar race at a mile and a sixteenth. We expect Eibar Coa to employ the same tactic here and put this son of PINE BLUFF to the front at the break. If the top runner is short on conditioning, TAKE THE BLUFF may be tough to catch from post three. THUNDERING SUCCESS and SONGOFTHESAILOR complete the field. www.FullCardReports.com |
