By FullCardReports.com With jockey Ramon Dominguez sidelined with a leg injury, his lead over Eibar Coa has dwindled to six, 67 to 61 after ten weeks of racing on the inner track. Chuck Lopez continues to hold the third spot with 51 victories and continues to provide value to his fans. Lopez' winning mounts average a solid $12.20 win mutuel. Trainer Gary Contessa has made an incredible 242 starts on the inner track and leads all conditioners with 45 victories (19%). Bruce Levine and Anthony Dutrow are tied for the second slot in the standings with 18 wins each but it is worth noting that Dutrow is firing 28% with his 18 wins coming from just 65 starts. Another trainer worth tracking is Richard Schosberg whose ten winners have come from 46 starts (22%) and have returned a healthy $17.70 average win payoff. It is no surprise that posts one and two continue to be the best place to start on the inner track. In sprints, the two inside slots have won 68 of 236 races (29%) while they've won 77 of 190 races going two turns (41%). Posts one, two, and three have won 54% of all route races which only reinforces the axiom that a ground-saving trip through the inner track's tight turns is the recipe for success. Wednesday kicks off six straight days of racing at Aqueduct. That’s because Aqueduct will be open on Monday, February 19th, Presidents’ Day, when the feature race will be the $65,000 Fred “Cappy” Capossela for three-year-olds at six furlongs. Aqueduct will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 20th and 21st, and will re-open on Thursday, February 22nd, with a normal first-race post at 12:30 p.m. Eastern. Saturday's top race is the Dearly Precious, a $65,000 six-furlong sprint for three-year-old fillies. The state-breds take over on Sunday in the Hollie Hughes, a six-furlong sprint for horses foaled in New York. On Wednesday, the feature will be an overnight stakes, the $65,000 ChampagneforAshley which is open to older horses and will be run at a mile and 70 yards. The Valentine's Day program on Wednesday will offer a $54,441 Pick 6 carryover. |
